Whether you think the following commercial is in good taste or not, this Milk ad certainly isn't using taste appeal to sell the product. Seems a study shows that calcium (like in Milk) can lessen the discomfort of PMS.
What's next, Heinz telling us to buy ketchup because it contains Lycopene, which can help prevent prostate problems? Mmmm, Lycopene! Or is Butterball about to extoll the virtue of the Tryptophan in their turkey which is an all-natural way to make you sleepy? Zzzz, Tryptophan!
At Atomic Ideas, we work hard to find and then communicate a client's "Marketable Truth." But just because something is true doesn't necessarily make it marketable. Can PMS sell more milk? I guess time will tell. (A little judicious research could have told them the same thing). Or maybe...just maybe... they were hoping to spur some controversy and get word of mouth going and incite unwitting bloggers to write about their product to give them free publicity!
What do you think? Is this commercial funny, taste-less, or both? And more importantly, does it make you want to buy milk?
