I just saw it on the news. Chrysler's first batch of "Imported From Detroit" tee shirts has already sold out!
The Super Bowl commercial featuring the two comeback kids - that would be Chrysler and Em - has created buzz on a global level. It's also created some pretty high expectations and the promise of renewal for a struggling brand.
Ah yes, "The Promise".It's advertising 101, isn't it? If you don't fulfill the promise of your advertising, you're probably doomed.
I loved the commercial. I loved the promise. I really want Chrysler to succeed.
But man, that promise scares me. It's hard to believe that Chrysler has really gone this far beyond it's record of spotty quality and reliabilty, and vehicles that either don't live up to their hype, or fail to create demand (i.e. Sebring - now revamped to the 200).
Couple that with the Fiat association... a brand which for many Americans still stands for "Fix It Again Tony".
I want a tee shirt. I want Chrysler to suceed. I want them to fulfill the promise of their advertising.
Let's see what happens.
Never liked Chrysler, had major disdain for Fiat, never gave a rip about Em & Em, but I do like the commercial, the theme line, and the T-Shirt. I want Chrysler to succeed, I want Detroit to succeed, and Em has enough money. But....I'm not holding my breath. Like you said Russ, they are going to have to PROVE it to me.
I know past performance is no guarantee of future results, but this is where the rubber hits the road.

Yes, I couldn't agree more. Let's believe in the new Chrysler and keep our fingers crossed.
