You've seen them. Billboards that try to drive you to a website for more information. Why do they do that? Unless you have a great memory, or have a friend in the car, at the ready, with paper and pencil and/or smart phone, how are you going to capture the website for later reference? (one exception are businesses whose company names are actually dot.coms, like flowers.com or autotrader.com)
Especially troubling are the billboards for ER wait times. So if I need an emergency room, I'm supposed to pull over, pull out a smart phone or laptop, wait for connection, then go to the web site to see how long I'll wait at your ER? Give me a break. If I need an ER now, I'm going to the closest one! Why doesn't the Hospital just provide a live connection on the billboard that will automatically post the current wait time? Then at least when I'm driving past, I could decide to drive to the next closest destination if the wait is too long (of course, I'd still have no idea how long the wait is at my alternate).
And don't get me started on billboards with phone numbers! At 60mph, I can't dial fast enough, let alone remember seven to ten digits!
But back to my original rant. Why put websites on billboards? If texting and driving is dangerous, surfing the net while driving is downright suicidal -- but at least you'd know how long you'll have to wait in the ER.
Billboard Idea.
DON'T CALL, TXT OR SURF WHILE DRIVING!
